VLP Global Innovation Center Delegation’s Visit to China in November 2019

On Nov. 13, a delegation from VLP Global Innovation Center led by Dr. Cindy Cui, co-founder and chairman of VLP Global Innovation Center visited Xiong’an New Area, Hebei Province, enhanced the understanding of regional development planning processes.

Located around 100 kilometers southwest of downtown Beijing, the Xiong’an New Area was set up to help spare Beijing of functions unrelated to its status as the nation's capital. Four high-speed train lines will run through Xiong’an while two canals will connect the New Area to Beijing and Tianjin. By high-speed railway, it will take only 20 minutes to travel from Xiong’an to Beijing’s planned new airport in Daxing District, 30 minutes to Beijing and Tianjin, and an hour to Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei province.

Xiong’an is another new area of "national significance" following the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area, according to the document, which has been approved by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. 80 percent of the Xiong’an New Area’s economic growth will come from cutting-edge technology industries. Xiong’an will give priority to investments in high-tech industries, including information technology, biotechnology, and new materials. The New Area will step up the construction of intelligent infrastructure, a smart mode of city administration, and a management system for data assets. As a millennium plan and a project with national significance, Xiong’an is a place full of opportunities. VLP Global Innovation Center will grow with Xiong’an by settling up business there and introducing world leading technologies and resources in accordance with the industrial orientation.

On Nov. 15, the delegates were invited to attend the Second Great Wall World Renewable Energy Forum and visited Thaiwoo Ski Town in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province.

The Forum on the theme "Driving Smart Transformation, Energizing Green Future", focused on promoting technology, market application and business model innovation in the field of renewable sources of energy. Attendees sought suitable means for the optimization of regional energy structure and the transformation of energy patterns from the perspectives of systems, mechanisms, technological innovation, financing and business model, expanded the space of international cooperation in the field of renewable energy resources, and talked about the prospects for development of global renewable energy.

On Nov. 18, the VLP delegation participated in the First Cornell-China Forum in Beijing. This inaugural Cornell-China Forum brings together Cornellians, industry leaders, and thought leaders for dynamic dialogues on several forward-looking themes, including health, food and agriculture, energy and environment, and cities.

On Nov. 21, the VLP delegation went to the Tianjin Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Advanced Technology (TIAT) for exchange. Dr. Cui and the delegation had a behind the scenes tour at TIAT, learned the growth and development, latest achievements and future plans of TIAT.

The Tianjin Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Advanced Technology (TIAT) is jointly established by Tianjin Binhai High-tech Industrial Development Zone Government and Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). To meet the nation’s needs in healthcare and manufacturing, TIAT focuses on emerging industries such as low-cost healthcare, service robots, electric vehicles, cloud computing, digital cities, nano-medicine, new energy and new materials.  TIAT will pool industrialization, capital, talent training and product application to build an innovation incubator, enhance the independent innovation capability of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and China's advanced manufacturing and modern services, and build technology industrial parks which reach to advanced domestic level.
